A Lennox AC installation in New York typically runs $4,130 to $8,850, depending on the model line, your home’s layout, and whether ductwork needs modifying. We’re an independent Lennox service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized dealer, which means we quote you the system that fits your home, not the one Lennox pushes hardest this quarter. Most installations take one to two days, and we give you a written price before anything gets ordered. Call (934) 465-5501 for a free estimate.
If you own a Lennox already, or you’re thinking about buying one, this page covers what actually happens when we install one in a New York home: the real costs, the common failure points we see in older Lennox units, and how our process works from the first call to the final walkthrough.
How Lennox Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Victor Mancini, our owner, likes to say he can diagnose half the Lennox problems in this city before he even gets out of the truck. Here’s what we see, season after season:
- Elite Series XC units and refrigerant leaks at the evaporator coil. Lennox Elite XC condensers are efficient machines, but the factory evaporator coils in units from the early 2010s have a tendency to develop pinhole leaks at the U-bends. In New York, where ACs sit idle through long winters and then get hammered from June through September, those leaks surface fast on the first hot day. We pressure-test with nitrogen before any recharge, because dumping refrigerant into a leaking coil is just throwing money at a problem that’ll be back by August. When we replace, we use an aftermarket coil that outlasts the factory copper, unless the warranty still covers the OEM part.
- Merit Series ML14 systems and capacitor failure from voltage sag. The Merit line is Lennox’s budget workhorse, and we install plenty of them in rentals and co-ops across the five boroughs. The weak point is the run capacitor: New York’s grid gets stressed during heat waves, and voltage dips shorten capacitor life. A Merit ML14 that hums but won’t spin the fan is almost always a capacitor. It’s a $175 to $400 fix, not a system replacement, and we carry the correct microfarad ratings on the truck for every Merit model.
- Signature Series XC25 and inverter board failures after power flickers. The XC25 is Lennox’s top-tier variable-speed unit, and it does run whisper-quiet, exactly as advertised. But the inverter board that makes it variable is sensitive to dirty power. Houston and parts of the East Coast see this too: after a brownout or a flicker, the unit throws a communication fault and locks out. You don’t need a new board half the time. We flash the firmware and re-sync the communicating thermostat, and if the board did burn, we get the OEM part because aftermarket inverter boards for the XC25 are a gamble we won’t take on your dime.
- Dave Lennox Signature and Elite units with blocked condensate lines. This sounds like a maintenance item, but on New York installs it matters at installation time too. Older buildings, especially prewar stock in Washington Heights and the walk-ups in Astoria, have condensate drains that run into old iron pipes with decades of scale inside them. We slope the condensate line ourselves and install a float switch on every install, so if the line does back up, the system shuts down before it pours water through your ceiling. That float switch is a $40 part. The ceiling repair it prevents is not $40.
- Elite Series EL18 and fan motor bearings wearing early from winter salt air corrosion. Homes anywhere near the water, from the Rockaways up to the Bronx shoreline, get salt-heavy air. Lennox condenser fan motors have sealed bearings, but the housing itself rusts where the mount meets the fan cage. We see EL18 units five or six years old with fan motors seizing because the mount rusted through. Our fix is the OEM motor assembly plus a corrosion-resistant coating on the new mount, which buys you years of life in a coastal neighborhood.

Our Lennox AC Installation Process
Here’s exactly what happens when you call us about a Lennox AC installation in New York:
- 1
You call (934) 465-5501. A live person answers. No phone tree, no callback list. We set a firm arrival window that same week.
- 2
We walk the job. One of our techs comes out, looks at your existing ductwork, electrical panel, and the space around your condenser location. We measure, not guess. Tell me what it is doing, and I will tell you what it needs, no guesswork, no surprises.
- 3
You get a written price. Before we leave the driveway that day, you have the full system price on paper: equipment, labor, refrigerant, electrical, permits, the works. That number does not change. If anything changes during the job, we tell you before we touch it, and the new work gets agreed to in writing first.
- 4
We do the install. Old equipment comes out, new Lennox goes in. We handle the refrigerant line-set, the condensate drainage with a float switch, the duct connections, and the electrical. Our techs are background-checked and uniformed, and they clean up after themselves, every time.
- 5
We test, then we walk you through it. We run the system through a full cooling cycle, verify pressures and temperature drop, and then we show you how to use the thermostat. You get a written record of what was installed and what we found.
- 6
The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies. Every installation includes a written guarantee. If anything related to our install work fails within 365 days, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s on paper before our techs leave your home.

AfterWhat Lennox AC Installation Costs in New York
Here are the honest numbers for New York, based on what we’ve installed over the years:
| Lennox Scenario | Typical Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| Merit Series ML14 replacement (single-stage, 2.5 – 3.5 tons) | $4,130 – $5,850 |
| Elite Series EL18 replacement (two-stage, 3 – 4 tons) | $5,500 – $7,200 |
| Signature Series XC20 or XC25 full install (variable-speed, high-efficiency) | $7,500 – $8,850 |
| Heat pump or dual-fuel Lennox install in New York | $6,200 – $8,600 |
What moves the price is mostly ductwork and electrical. If your existing duct sizing works and your panel has space for a 30 or 40 amp breaker, the install is straightforward. If we’re modifying ducts, adding a return, or running a new circuit through a finished basement in a co-op building, the labor goes up. We give you line-item pricing so you see every dollar. Estimates are free. Call (934) 465-5501 and we’ll walk the job.
Why New York Homeowners Call Cold Harbour Heating and Air New York for Lennox Work
We’ve been doing this since 2003, as an independently owned and operated member of the Kingswell network. That matters because the Kingswell Way is in writing: say the price before the work, show up in the window given, leave the place cleaner than found, put the guarantee in writing, come back if it fails. Those are not slogans around here. That’s how every job gets run.
Our techs train on nine major HVAC brands, so if your home has a Lennox AC but a Carrier furnace or a Trane heat pump in another zone, the same crew can handle all of it. Victor Mancini started this company because he got tired of watching homeowners get burned by outfits that quoted one number over the phone and a different number at the door. The 365-Day Done Right Promise is his answer to that, and it’s on paper, on every Lennox job we do in New York.
FAQs
No, we are an independent Lennox service provider. That means we’re not tied to Lennox’s sales quotas or factory pricing, so we recommend whatever Lennox system actually fits your home and budget, not the model the manufacturer is pushing that season. It also means we can install any model line you choose, from Merit to Signature, at a price we quote ourselves.
No. Lennox equipment warranties are tied to the equipment registration and proper installation practices, not to who installed it. We register every new unit with Lennox on your behalf and follow the manufacturer’s installation specs, including refrigerant charge weights and airflow settings, so your warranty stays intact. If you have an existing warranty claim later, our documentation supports it.
Once we’ve done the site walk and you’ve approved the written quote, most standard Lennox AC installations are scheduled and completed within one to two weeks. The installation itself takes one to two days. We do not rush a job or cut corners to hit a date, and we won’t leave you without cooling while we work.
If your Lennox is under 10 years old and the repair is under $800, repair is usually the better call. We’ll tell you that straight. If the compressor failed, the evaporator coil is leaking, or the unit is 12-plus years old and uses R-22 refrigerant, replacement is usually the better money. A new Lennox Merit or Elite system runs $4,130 to $7,200 installed in New York, and the efficiency gain alone usually offsets the cost over five to seven years. Call (934) 465-5501 and we’ll give you a straight answer on your specific unit.
Yes. We install Lennox heat pumps, dual-fuel systems, and Lennox mini split systems across New York. Heat pumps are becoming more common here as winters get milder and Con Ed rebates make them worth doing. We handle the rebate paperwork too, since it comes out of the price you actually pay.
